Well, who would of thought that I would be away for so long? Not, I, that's for sure!
Anyway, today I went to get a haircut. I thought I didn't need opne all that badly, but Karen has been hounding me to get a haircut, and when I sat down in the "clippers" chair, the barber told me that I really needed a haircut. So much for my opinion.
As I sat there getting my locks trimmed, I noticed a back-pack type of bag sitting under the counter in front of me. I suppose it was the barber's personal bag. I couldn't help but wonder what it contained. I wondered if she already had it packed before she left for work this morning, or if she made a special effort to put very special items therein which she would be in need of throughout today. Did she think specifically of what she would need, or did she just grab a few "things" and carefully pack them away thinking they would be useful to her for today. Did she have her lunch packed in there? Did she have a book, paper, or magazine in therre to read during her breaks? Did she have text books to study during extended breaks. Did she have photos of her family ensconced? Was her checkbook enclosed in order that she might spend some time attempting to balance it during the day? What was in there?
Did she have fresh underwear packed away in case of an emergency? What about deodorant, lipstick, powder, cologne?
This lady was apparently a native American, although I did not ask her about her origins. She was friendly enough, and was very definite in her task at hand. In fact, she gave me one of the finest haircuts I ever got at that place - the name of which completely avoids me at the moment. She was definitely very good at what she does. She even went so far as to ask whether or not I wanted my ears trimmed. Of course, I did!
Earlier I went to the clinic to have my blood drawn for my doctor visit on next Tuesday. It wasn't too bad today. There were a lot of folks there, but the technicians were moving people along very quickly.
One very large chested young lady came into the clinic qs I awaited my turn. She had on a sweater-type top with the emblem of a kitty cat centered over her left breast. I have no idea what the significance of that was, probably none, but my mind had a field trip with the possibilities. As I left the clinic, I grabbed a quick glance as I exited the door. The lady was busy studying the face of her cellphone.
From there, I headed over to McKinley Middle School to pick up my long-lost jacket. When I walked into the office, there were several students sitting in the waiting area. I turned to them and scowled at them, as is my wont, when I substitute at the various schools. They looked at me and smiled. As I turned to the secretary's desk, she looked at the kids and shouted, "You kids be quiet! You are all in trouble!" She then arose from her chair, walked to a cabinet behind her, opened it, and secured my jacket . She then turned with a scowl on her face and handed it to me without so much as a, "Here, stick this up your" .... or anything else! I thanked her profusely. She ignored me.
I then came home and took-out the trash (Today is trash day in our neighborhood.) I put all my newspapers into a paper sack, placed the cans and plastic into another paper sack, and sat them out on the curb. Well, since the city code says, "All recycle must be placed into a clear plastic bag," the trash guys left my recycle on the curb. The rules, of course, are the rules. Except, of course, when it comes to immigration laws.
Did I tell you that on Saturday last, Karen and I went to listen to a performance by the US Naval Academy Mens" Choir? Saturday last, Karen and I went to listen to a performance of the USNA Mens' Choir. It was fantastic. As an opener to the program, the local Manzano High School choir sang a fre selections. They had just won the state Championship in High School Choir competition. (Class 5AAA) It was easy to see why they won. That choir director has done a marvelous job with those students. They are fantastic. And so was the USNA Choir.
Which reminds me, I went, recently, to Hoover Middle School, where my grand daughter, Caryn, is a student for the issuance of Honor Roll Certificates of which Caryn was one of the recipients. The opening program for that event was the Hoover Middle School Orchestra. What a stunnig performance those yourng students gave. I rate them as superior when it comes to a MS orchestra. I had gone there a couple of years earlier for a Christmas concert, and I was equally fascinated and enthused with the performance at that time as well.
So, it seems that APS, in spite of all its problems, is doing a fairly great job of training its students in the art of music. Not too bad, I would say.
Thanbks for listening. I''ll be back anon!
